From the Sky Valley Chronicle: DINOSAURS LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN THEM
(NATIONAL) -- The Discovery Channel Sunday night presents a new twist on an old theme. It’s launching Dinosaur Revolution, a four-hour animated miniseries that combines "the artistic and storytelling talents of the world’s most renowned dinosaur illustrators with the most up-to-date discoveries about dinosaurs, their culture, and their behaviors," according to a news release on the show.
A piece on the series on TV.com says the idea was to create eight-minute self contained vignettes that feature a variety of species but with a twist: the manner in which the vignettes are produced is deigned to get viewers inside the heads of the dinosaurs, without narration.
A paleontologist, Dr. Thomas R. Holtz, worked closely with producers and the animation team to make sure the vignettes were backed by facts.
For example when two Tyrannosaurus Rex characters lock jaws, that incident is based on fossilized skulls that show face bites as their preferred way of dealing with non-lethal wounds.
The series will also introduce dinosaur species that have never been shown on TV before, because no one knew they existed until recently.
The production was three years in the making. Dinosaur Revolution premieres Sunday, September 4 at 9:00 pm on the Discovery channel.
