From The Republic (Columbus, Indina): Workers making repairs to aging dinosaurs in Rapid City's Dinosaur Park
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City parks officials are doing some work refurbishing the concrete creatures in the city's Dinosaur Park.
KNBN television reports that the park on Skyline Drive has been around since the 1930s, and the prehistoric creatures are aging even more.
Parks and Recreation workers have been refurbishing the big dinosaur, they and noticed that the paint and concrete is wearing on the top of the big dinosaur's head.
Parks Division manager Lon Vandeusen says the concrete has been exposed since 1936 and it has had to endure freezing and thawing temperatures, hail storms and wind storms.
They hope to complete repairs and have it restored by Memorial Day next spring.
Dinosaur Park is also establishing a foundation to help keep the park alive for future generations.
